Nathaniel Lease

Alto, Tenor, Bass Trombonist and Educator

Dr. Nathaniel Lease is an Adjunct Instructor of Music at Hagerstown Community College and Penn State Mont Alto. He is also the Former Principal Trombonist of the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his teachings, Nate has a busy schedule as a Freelance Orchestral, Solo, Band, and Chamber Musician in the Greater DC area. He has performed with the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra, Symphony of the Potomac, Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, Hagerstown Choral Arts Society, Shippensburg Orchestra, and Market Street Brass.

Along with his duties at HCC, Nate is also on faculty as a Brass Instructor at the Cumberland Valley School of Music in Chambersburg, PA, Shepherd Community Music School in Shepherdstown, WV. Nate also served as faculty at the International School of Music in Bethesda, MD for a few months and continues to serve as a substitute teacher. Nate’s students have successfully entered many prominent groups and colleges in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, including the All County Band in Washington County, District 7’s All District Band in Pennsylvania, All State Band in West Virginia, Liberty University in Lynchburg VA, Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, PA and Towson University in Towson, MD.

Nate has been featured with the University of Delaware Trombone Choir on their 2017 American Trombone Workshop Performance. He was a faculty member and soloist at the Shepherd Trombone Day, and as a soloist with the Hagerstown Municipal Band. He gave the world premiere performance of “Emerging from What” by Dalton Regnier, based off of a painting of the same name by Brent Jones, at the 2020 American Trombone Workshop. He was invited to play with the Capitol Bones at the same event.

Nate has completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Shenandoah Conservatory. He has received his Master of Music Degree in Trombone Performance from the University of Delaware and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. His primary teachers include Dr. Matthew Niess, Dr. Jeff Cortazzo, Dr. Bruce Tychinski, Dr. Christian Dickinson, Mr. Justin Moore and Mr. Noel Kunkle. He currently resides in Waynesboro, PA with his wife, Sara and dog, Fara.
